در شرح احوالات بتهوون، چند باری خواندهام که بداههنوازیهایاش فوقالعاده بوده. هر چقدر بتهوونای که از طريق کارهای مکتوباش میشناسيم فوقالعاده، پر اوج و فرود و مسحورکننده است، گفته میشود که بتهوون بداههنواز دو چندان اين چنين بوده است. هنگامی که پشت پيانو مینشسته، بدون اين که تمای را از قبل آماده داشته باشد، چنان وارياسونهايی روی آن اجرا میکرده که همهی شنوندهگان از خود بیخود میشدهاند. طوفانای بوده که کسی را يارای مقاومت در برابرش نيست.
بعضی از کارهایاش به من اين احساس را میدهند که به بتهوون بداههسرا گوش میکنم. مثلاً سی و دو وارياسون در دو مينور، روی تمای از خودش. يکی از قطعات بسيار مورد علاقهی من.

I’ve read about Beethoven that his Impromptus were astonishing. Whatever the Beethoven we know through his works is extraordinary, full of ascends and descend and astounding, it’s said that offhanded Beethoven had twice of these qualities. When he played the piano, without having prepared a theme before, how shocking variations he played that all listeners were exalted into a different world. It was a storm no one can resist against.
There are works of Beethoven that give this feeling to me as if I’m listening to offhanded Beethoven; for example 32 variations in C minor, on an original theme. One of my most favorites.
